Updates for adherence to pharmacotherapy and lifestyle modifications – physical activity
The latest updates to the Australian and New Zealand Living Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management include an updated weak recommendation for adherence to pharmacotherapy, based on new evidence and an expanded search including patients with cardiovascular disease for generalisable information.
The lifestyle modification topic has had a minor update to the physical therapy practice point following the updated Australian physical activity guidelines 24-hour movement guidelines for all Australians. The New Zealand physical activity guidelines have been added to this recommendation as well.
These updates were approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) on 26 August 2026.
The Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management continue to follow a living-evidence approach, where monthly searches for new research evidence feed into 6-monthly reviews and updates where appropriate.
