Swelling of the extremities

People who are standing or sitting upright with their arm or leg hanging and immobile as a result of weakness risk developing oedema, a build-up of fluid that causes swelling of the hand or foot. It’s managed with interventions such as electrical stimulation, pressure garments and elevation of the limb.
