A new website for young survivors of stroke

YoungStroke

There are over 120,000 Australians of working age (18–64 years) living with the impact of stroke. Until now, there have been limited resources younger people could see themselves in, or help them deal with the unique trauma and challenges of being a younger survivor of stroke.

Younger survivors, their family, carers and friends told us there was a lack of age-appropriate information, and this contributed to feeling alone, confused and disempowered. They wanted information grounded in evidence and information that reflected their lived experience. They wanted information to be simple and easy to find.

The Young Stroke Project started in 2020 with the aim to change this. We are beyond excited to reach an important milestone in the project with the launch of the Young Stroke website!

The Young Stroke website is a place to hear younger survivors of stroke talk about what helps and the challenges they face. A place to get tips, resources and connect with others who "get it." A safe space to feel less alone. A starting place to find information about stroke and recovery.

A huge thank you goes to over 1000 people with lived experience for making this resource possible, with special thanks to the Lived Experience Working Group and Young Stroke Project team. Please share far and wide with your patients, family and friends.
