The National Stroke Audit measures the quality of rehabilitation stroke care in hospitals throughout Australia. The 2024 results highlight where the system is working well and reports on areas where improvements or changes are needed.

About the presenter and panelists

Anne Hooper is the Stroke Data Coordinator at Stroke Foundation and has been coordinating the national rehab audit this year. She has worked as a senior stroke nurse in both the acute and subacute settings and became endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner in 2022. She is passionate about improving stroke care and has a particular focus on the rural and regional communities.
Melita Stirling is the Stroke Quality Improvement Manager at the Stroke Foundation. She has a background in speech pathology with patients with neurological disorders and had a stroke herself in 2005. Melita is driven by her clinical and personal experience of stroke and has a fascination for understanding the complexities and pulling together all the moving parts of the health system to create positive change. Her focus is on change initiatives that improve the health and well-being of people impacted by stroke.
Professor Natasha Lannin holds a joint appointment as Professor of Occupational Therapy across Alfred Health and Professor of Neuroscience in the School of Translational Medicine at Monash University. Professor Lannin leads the Brain Recovery and Rehabilitation Research Group and is an international expert in her field of neurorehabilitation where she leads large clinical trials that generate new evidence, and implementation studies which translate evidence into practice on a national and international scale.
Dr Tamina Levyis a physiotherapist with over 35 years clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation. She works in the Advanced Practitioner Neurological Rehabilitation role at FMC-RAP and as a Senior Lecturer/researcher at Flinders University. Tamina’s area of research interest is around developing and implementing evidence-based rehabilitation programs for people with chronic neurological conditions, with a focus on behaviour change. She applies her knowledge across fields of clinical, teaching and research. She has expertise is stroke rehabilitation, especially around spasticity management and gait reeducation.
Kelvin Hill is the National Manager Clinical Services at the Stroke Foundation, where he oversees the development and implementation of the Australian Living Stroke Guidelines, the National Stroke Audit and other national clinical and policy activity. Kelvin is also actively involved in national and international efforts to improve guideline methods and their implementation.
