After completing this module, participants will be able to:

  • identify the differences between mortality, incidence and prevalence, and how these data are collected
  • explain the limitations of mortality statistics
  • describe how incidence varies between countries and what these differences mean
  • state how incidence figures can be used for many different purposes
  • illustrate where Australia and New Zealand fit in regard to stroke incidence and the geographical, socio-economic and ethnic differences that occur.
