Overview

Interdisciplinary teams in stroke units, are found to provide stroke patients with the best evidence-based care. In this module, you’ll learn about the characteristics of an interdisciplinary team, the key factors that contribute to effective stroke unit care and the elements to consider in the daily assessment of a stroke patient.

Learning objectives


Recall the recommendations of the Clinical Guidelines for Stroke Management which relate to stroke unit care.

  • Differentiate between stroke care provided by an interdisciplinary team compared to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify the key characteristics of effective stroke unit care for implementation in your hospital’s stroke unit. 
  • Identify common complications following a stroke
  • Recall the steps to an effective discharge plan.
