Learning objectives

After completing this module, participants will be able to:
  • identify whether a stroke is ischaemic or haemorrhagic in origin
  • recognise that ischaemic strokes can be divided into small or large arterial territories which differ in their presentation
  • differentiate between anterior and posterior circulation syndromes based on clinical findings
  • explain the various subtypes of strokes and thereby dictate the urgency of various investigations and management strategies
  • describe the Oxford or Bamford stroke classification, and explain how it offers anatomical, etiological and prognostic information.
