After completing this module, participants will be able to:
- identify whether a stroke is ischaemic or haemorrhagic in origin
- recognise that ischaemic strokes can be divided into small or large arterial territories which differ in their presentation
- differentiate between anterior and posterior circulation syndromes based on clinical findings
- explain the various subtypes of strokes and thereby dictate the urgency of various investigations and management strategies
- describe the Oxford or Bamford stroke classification, and explain how it offers anatomical, etiological and prognostic information.
