Learning objectives
After completing this module, participants will be able to:
- identify the pathologies behind the different causes of stroke
- explain how risk factors for atherothrombosis contribute to the development of a stroke
- describe the main mechanisms that can lead to vessel occlusion
- state the main mechanisms by which atherosclerotic plaques rupture
- the pathways that are involved in the most effective treatments.
- identify the locations where emboli originate
- distinguish the different cardiac causes of emboli and what these comprise
- discriminate between types of intracranial haemorrhage, and how each has its own unique risk factors and management strategies.
