Dysphagia
Dysphagia is a complication affecting many stroke survivors in the first few hours and days following a stroke.
Although the speech pathologist is the key worker in dysphagia management, they are supported by all members of an interdisciplinary team. This module is therefore relevant to allied health and nursing clinicians who work with people at risk of dysphagia.
Learning objectives
- Define dysphagia.
- Identify symptoms of dysphagia.
- List its possible causes and complications.
- Describe the screening process for dysphagia.
