Learning objectives 

After completing this module, participants will be able to:

  • discuss why tissues have different densities on a computed tomography (CT) scan
  • identify normal structures of the brain on a CT scan
  • define an approach to the interpretation of a CT brain scan
  • recall the principles of CT perfusion and angiography interpretation
  • recognise common stroke pathologies on a CT brain scan.

 

Prerequisites

Participants would benefit from the modules 'Pathophysiology' and 'Stroke Syndromes' before undertaking this module.

 

About this module:

This module was initially developed by the Victorian Stroke Clinical Network and Associate Professor Alistair Wright, Head of Internal Medicine and Clinical Dean of Monash Medicine at Latrobe Regional Hospital. It has since been updated with new content on CT perfusion and CT angiography by Professor Bruce Campbell, Consultant Neurologist and Head of Stroke, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Professorial Fellow, Melbourne Brain Centre, University of Melbourne.
